Some “Must Do’s” in Australia

0

The Great Barrier Reef.

The reef is the biggest reef system  on the planet, comprised of more than 2,800 individual reefs, and almost 1000 islands and cays that stretch almost 350,000 square kilometres. The Great Barrier Reef is home to thousands of kinds of sealife and was awarded World Heritage status, in 1981, to preserve its heritage for future generations.
Expert Travel Tip:
if you are searching for a romantic getaway then think about doing a low altitude scenic helicopter flight over the Great Barrier Reef, as the views are simply stunning and you can often see dolphins and large rays in the crystal clear waters from the air. Also, you can be dropped off on a deserted sand cay for the afternoon with just an esky, a picnic lunch, and a beach umbrella, as well as snorkelling gear, and then collected at the end of the day. This is my first choice when asked by customers for the perfect location for a marriage proposal.

Cape Tribulation Beach and the Daintree Rainforest National Park:

Cape Tribulation is situated approximately 100 kilometres to the north of Cairns and is within the Daintree National Park, which also has World Heritage status.
Expert Travel Tip:
Cape Tribulation has lush spa resorts, so stay overnight in luxury. Cape Tribulation is in the heart of the Daintree Rainforest, when you can enjoy wildlife cruises on the Daintree River, to spot Crocodiles in the wild, and walk on boardwalks amongst pristine rainforest as well as along
miles of deserted~ golden sand beaches. They say the Daintree is “where the rainforest meets the reef”. As the only place on the planet where two World Heritage areas are side by side – it is a magical location! It is very assessable for those who are not mobile, and makes for a great family destination.

Kuranda Scenic Railway:
The railway was completed in the late 19th century, and is one of the most beautiful trips that you can ever take on a train, as you journey through some incredible scenery and past many stunning cascadesof water as the train chugs from Cairns to the sleepy village of Kuranda.
Expert Travel Tip:
When going on the Kuranda Railway and the Skyrail Cablecar I also advise visiting the Tjapukai Aboriginal theme Park, because here you will learn how to throw a spear , play the music sticks and enjoy traditional dancing, which is lots of fun for all the family, as well as learning about Indigenous traditions. Also make time to visit bird world.

Lizard Island:

Located approximately 250 kilometres from Cairns, Lizard Island is one of the hundrerds of islands found in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
Expert Travel Tip: I strongly recommend Mike Ball Dive Expedition’s 3 night fly / dive expedition which starts with a stunning low level flight along the barrier reef, landing at Lizard Island to meet up with the dive vessel that takes you to some of the most perfect reefs that you will ever see. I had done lots of scuba trips before I went on this trip, and I was amazed by the sea life that I had never seen before like the beautiful lacy scorpion fish and the lion fish. And if you think you can’t dive then you are wrong, an introductory dive is perfect, as long as you don’t have medical conditions such as heart defects, or respiratory ailments, and it is a relaxing way to see the reef for all ages.

The Outback and Ayers Rock:

Some of the delights that you will come accross when visiting Ayers Rock in the Aussie Outback are vividly painted landscapes and amazing rock structures that are incredible, red earth that blazes brighter than fire embers, and aboriginal art and culture that shows what it truly means to be Australian.
.

Uluru:
Situated approximately 350 kilometres southwest of Alice Springs, Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock is a natural rock formation that is located in the Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park. Uluru is believed to be thousand of years old and is a ‘must do’.
Expert Travel Tip: The best way to see Uluru is to do a 4 day , 3 night safari, so you can see much more, and so you can see Uluru at its best, at sunset and at sunrise. You can either camp, or stay in luxury accommodation. This way you are also able to see Kings Canyon and the Olgas, and the colours of the landscape as they change, which is simply breathtaking.
